Ice Cream Play Dough
Sooo Sweet!
After trying the recipe for chocolate play dough last week and having great fun with it but we wanted to sweeten it up even more!
We made a few homemade ice cream cones, labeled a couple “ice cream” containers and Ryan and I enjoyed an afternoon at the ice cream play dough parlor.
Here’s How
We used a simple Salt Dough Recipe (2 cups flour, 1 cup salt and 1 cup water) as our base and added different scents:
-
Vanilla Ice Cream – vanilla extract
-
Strawberry Ice Cream – Strawberry Kool Aid Packet
-
Mint Ice Cream Recipe – Peppermint Oil
-
Chocolate Ice Cream Recipe – (see here)
Ways to Play
Make Believe:
-
Use the play dough as pretend food for dolls (or superpowers)
-
Use with kitchen play sets or other play scenes
-
Role play as a bakery or candy store
Manipulative:
-
Practice patterns with scents and colors using the different play dough
-
Practice shape recognition after molding play dough or have them make their own shapes
Creative:
-
Make your own ice cream cones by making funnels out of brown construction paper
-
Design your own ice cream labels
Learning:
-
Use small ball of play dough pieces for adding and subtracting tools
-
Read books related to the topic – such as “Ice Cream Everywhere” (Scholastic website has a FREE lesson plan for this book!)
