Sooo Sweet!

After trying the recipe for chocolate play dough last week and having great fun with it but we wanted to sweeten it up even more!

We made a few homemade ice cream cones, labeled a couple “ice cream” containers and Ryan and I enjoyed an afternoon at the ice cream play dough parlor.

Here’s How

We used a simple Salt Dough Recipe (2 cups flour, 1 cup salt and 1 cup water) as our base and added different scents:

• Vanilla Ice Cream – vanilla extract

• Strawberry Ice Cream – Strawberry Kool Aid Packet

• Mint Ice Cream Recipe – Peppermint Oil

• Chocolate Ice Cream Recipe – (see here)

Ways to Play

Make Believe:

• Use the play dough as pretend food for dolls (or superpowers)

• Use with kitchen play sets or other play scenes

• Role play as a bakery or candy store

Manipulative:

• Practice patterns with scents and colors using the different play dough

• Practice shape recognition after molding play dough or have them make their own shapes

Creative:

• Make your own ice cream cones by making funnels out of brown construction paper

• Design your own ice cream labels

Learning:

• Use small ball of play dough pieces for adding and subtracting tools

• Read books related to the topic – such as “Ice Cream Everywhere” (Scholastic website has a FREE lesson plan for this book!)
