Mission: Organized Closets

Mission: Organized Closets

When Do the Things We Own, Own Us?

I cracked open the storage closet door and peered upon the controlled chaos stacked from floor to ceiling. The neatly stacked bins were appropriately labeled, designating seasons, holidays, sizes and names. I asked myself… if it were all gone, would I miss it? The contents of which I was racking my brain to remember. What could I do with this space when it was conquered?

Thank You, HGTV

That’s when I began Project Organized Closets. I began to pull out, bin by bin, the treasure trove of trash I had worked so diligently to collect. I’ve watched enough HGTV to know I need to designate three areas: Keep. Toss. Donate.

Amidst the project, I found myself overwhelmed with anxiety.  I was drowning in a sea of clothing. I was being mocked by the joyful song of Christmas ornaments as I threw them into donation boxes. Shoes were stacked high enough to supply a whole village. There were things I didn’t even remember I had!

I’m happy to report I made it out alive… and with a lot less stuff weighing me down. It’s a freeing feeling to let go. I added a fourth pile that day: Sell. I’m working on dwindling that pile down. While it wasn’t truly a treasure trove, it’ll hopefully give us a few extra pennies to throw towards summer fun.

Those closets are so beautiful and huge! Yes, a girl can definitely dream, but for now, I will follow in your footsteps and try to get my own closets organized! Lol.
