Juicing With Kids: Invest in Their Health

Keeping kids healthy and full of nutrient-rich foods is just as important as keeping yourself healthy! Children need nutrition, not just food. Childhood obesity is on the rise and processed / fast foods seem to be the quickest, cheapest things to reach for. However, it’s at the cost of health. Exposing children to healthy foods, getting them excited about consuming more fruits and vegetables and teaching them about healthy habits will give them the ability to make their own healthy decision.

Try, Try Again

Like most four-year-olds, Ryan is a picky eater. It’s a constant struggle to keep his diet balanced with the things his palate likes and the things his body needs. For months, I had included Ryan into the juice making process and encouraged him to try it. To my dismay he always declined. For months, every time I made juice he would help me in the kitchen, washing, peeling, prepping, juicing… and one day, to my surprise and delight, he asked to try it! He drank a glass of Mean Green, immediately flexed and proclaimed he was the Hulk!

Watermelon Lemonade

This one is sure to be a summertime favorite {inspired from disneybaby.com}

  • 2 pints, seedless watermelon

  • 2 lemons

  • stevia (to taste)

Green Power Juice

It’s chock full of fruits to give it a sweet taste, but delivers lots of vitamin C, vitamin K, calcium, and fiber { inspired from redtri.com }

  • 1 handful of kale, spinach or a combination

  • 1 pear

  • 1 cup strawberries

  • 1/2 lemon, unpeeled

  • 1 apple, cut into chunks

  • Juice the greens first, followed by the pear, strawberries, lemon, and apple.

Orange Jubilee Juice

Kids will love the bright orange hue of this fruit beverage. They’ll hardly notice the carrots through the naturals sugars from the orange and apple. { inspired from inhabitots.com }

  • - 1 orange

  • - 3 carrots

  • - 1 apple

  • Serve over ice

Green Monster Juice

Get your child excited about drinking juice. Tell them it will give them superpowers, like the Hulk or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The apples and celery give this juice a fresh, summery taste { inspired from rebootwithjoe.com }

  • 1 granny smith apple

  • 1/2 large cucumber

  • 1 handful fresh spinach leaves

  • 1/4 inch ginger root

  • 1/8 lemon

Giggle Juice

Sweet and refreshing, your kids will never know it has something green in it! { inpired from bhg.com }

  • 1 large cucumber

  • 1 thick slice of watermelon
