Our Disney Fairytale Wedding

Our Disney Fairytale Wedding

If you’ve been following following the CLK blog, you’ll know we were super excited to set sail on our Disney Cruise last month to celebrate our nuptials. I’m glad to report everything went swimmingly (har-har) and we’re officially celebrating our one month wedding anniversary! (Read our engagement story here.)

While we’re still working on sorting through the thousands of pictures (I’m not exaggerating), I just thought I’d share a few pictures and details about our wedding.

Disney Wedding Invitations

To start things off, we sent out special invitations in February. We used wooden boxes to include our passport invitations and a few surprises that arrived by mail. Each of the boxes was stained with a cherry finish and lined with felt. In the top of the box, we used one of my husband’s photographs from a previous cruise and adhered it to the top of the lid. We found some really awesome Disney Cruise stickers that really put the finishing touches on the inside. Each box contained a passport invitation, a few seashells and a wooden anchor with a heart embellishment which was all laid within the brown crinkle cut filler paper. We found beautiful blue satin ribbon which was placed around the outside of the box and tied with a bow.

Disney Fairytale Wedding & Cruise

On May 8th, 2014, we boarded the Disney Fantasy Cruise ship at approximately 12:00pm. It had already been a long day as we had been traveling by car, bus and airplane since 5:00am. However, the day had just really begun! We were scheduled to have our official ceremony with the notary at 3:00pm that afternoon. After walking through the ship, taking in the sights and sounds and gathering everyone up, we were whisked away to a private room, the Outlook Lounge, where both our families attended the  short ceremony. At that point, we were officially married, but the fun had just begun!

There was more to come on May 10th, the date of the symbolic ceremony. At 4:00pm, after spending the morning playing aboard the ship and relaxing in the spa, we said our “I Do’s” with the help of the captain. It was an intimate and amazing ceremony and certainly exceeded our expectations. It was such a blessing to have our families with us to help celebrate in such an intimate way. With little to no stress with planning, it let us give our full focus and attention on the day.

The staff and crew were so friendly and helpful and I couldn’t have asked for a better way to celebrate. We got to toast with champagne, cut our cake, have our first dance (and a few others) with a live musician. After the ceremony was over, we stopped at a few places around the boat to take pictures. We couldn’t have asked for a better back drop!

I’m convinced there’s no where else in the world that would have made me feel more like a princess that day. Admittedly, it was pretty fun. I loved watching the little girls’ eyes light up as they saw the big ballgown. Onlookers were so kind with compliments as we had crowds watching us take pictures on the decadent red staircase. I certainly had a Cinderella moment.

We had dinner at the Enchanted Garden, an on board dinner venue based on the garden of Versailles complete with beautiful painted frescoes, a seven foot waterfall and glass flowers that hang from the ceiling that slowly bloom over the course of your dinner. The day proved to be too eventful for our son, Ryan as he tuckered out and slept through dinner. The waiter was kind enough to set us up with a few extra chairs. Thankfully my wedding dress had all those extra layers and made for quite the comfy pillow!

The week was full of amazing shows, beautiful beaches, colorful sunsets and most importantly, tons of great memories we made together as a family.

Thank you Jamie! I’m so excited for you! It was a blast and would do it again in a heartbeat :)
The photos we took ourselves… my husband is a wedding photographer so it worked out well. The boat has wedding photography packages but our wedding planner also said some people hire photographers to travel with them (although I’m sure that would cost an arm and a leg).
Best of luck!! :) Let me know if you have any other questions, I’m happy to help!

Aww, so happy to hear, Jamie! Thank you for the kind words! Haha, I think we’re ready for another cruise! ;)
I’ve seen two weddings on Castaway Cay and the island is gorgeous. My only suggestion is to keep in mind that you’ll be “walking down the isle” in sand… which is totally awesome but requires pre-planning. The one bride had a huge beautiful dress and amazing heels but she had a real struggle getting down the beach.
I’m so excited for you guys! :)
